Bent's Old Fort - Colorado

Another historic place I visited was this fort that wasn't a military fort but more of a trading fort. The Europeans traded with the natives, mostly beaver and buffalo hides.

Picture was taken through a bug splattered windshield.

Approach to the fort about 1/8 mile from parking.

Inside the fort, cooking over an open fire with a dutch oven.

Picture from second floor right of the stairs in previous picture.

Inside the front gate.

Room where trade would have been carried out.

Blacksmith shop.

Hats made from beaver pelts.

Private room of a higher ranking person.

Would you want to try to climb over that wall? Good security measure.
