Bishop's Castle

This is a place I visited a couple years ago and it was the strangest place in Colorado I have been. This guy is building it all by himself. He has been working on it since 1969. I have talked with Jim Bishop and he has a few strange ideas but you can see he does things a little different.

I have been all the way to the top and in many places there are no guard rails.

 Amazing windows!

 Fire breathing monster!

 Stained glass!

 Large chairs!

Steep stairways!

Walkways I was afraid to try.

 Stone everywhere.

Future elevator shaft.
Main entrance and it was free to look around. Look it up at Bishop's Castle.

Big Rig Show

There was a big rig show at the old Chanute AFB. It brought back a lot of memories of my days on the road. Here are a few pictures of both. I drove for 21 months and covered 200,000 miles. Great fun and learned a lot.

 Old truck in excellent condition.

 My favorite in the competition.

Another favorite. These are bobtails, without trailer.

Notice the lady cleaning between the rear wheels.

Lots of work to keep clean.

My first truck when I started driving.

My second truck was shorter so I could go into Canada.

Stopped for a short look at nature.

 My co-driver.

 Utah, near Moab.

Co-driver keeping an eye on the road.

It wasn't always fun and games.

View of the driving compartment from the sleeper.

Jeep trips in the mountains

I always enjoy the jeep trips I take with my friends. There is always something new to see and we get up high where the air is clean.

Bent's Old Fort - Colorado

Another historic place I visited was this fort that wasn't a military fort but more of a trading fort. The Europeans traded with the natives, mostly beaver and buffalo hides.

Picture was taken through a bug splattered windshield.

Approach to the fort about 1/8 mile from parking.

Inside the fort, cooking over an open fire with a dutch oven.

Picture from second floor right of the stairs in previous picture.

Inside the front gate.

Room where trade would have been carried out.

Blacksmith shop.

Hats made from beaver pelts.

Private room of a higher ranking person.

Would you want to try to climb over that wall? Good security measure.

Cabela's

A great place to shop for outdoors items is in Sydney, NE and I always stop when I am there at mile-marker 59 on I-80. It is 59 miles from the WY border.

Click on pictures to view larger.

This outlet faces I-80 so people see it as they pass by.
 Art of two elk fighting

 Drive up entrance for pickup.
Amazing interior and lots of mounted animals.
