Close to Home

You don't have to travel to far to find a beautiful place this time of year.

Homer Lake is a great place to enjoy nature.

The colors are so vibrant.

People are enjoying the water.

The water is still.

Plenty of trails.

Very few people.

 I enjoyed the warm breeze.

Enjoy the wild life.

Close to home and a world of fun.

Make sure you play in the leaves when you are there.

Monument Valley

The areas of southern Utah and northern Arizona have a place known as Monument Valley for all the Rock formations that have stood for eternity.

As you approach from the North.

The day I was there I felt all alone. I loved it!

1976 Honda 360

1980 Honda 500

1981 Honda 400

1999 Harley Davidson Road King Classic

1999 Kawasaki KLR 650

They have been a lot of fun and I have traveled all over the country on them.

Yellowstone in the Winter

Back a number of years ago I got the opportunity to snowmobile in Yellowstone. It was a magnificent site in the winter and like Lake City, much better without all the summer tourists.

Yellowstone Lake with a few small hot pools in the foreground.

Similar shot along the lake.

Enjoying a short stop for a rest.

There were about 12 in our group. We rode in from outside the park to the main lodge at Old Faithful, had lunch and rode back out of the park all in one day.

It looks a lot different in the winter.

If you didn't want to snowmobile you could ride one of the coaches and cross country ski or just walk around at Old faithful.

There were several different kinds of snow machines that would bring you in.

I guess my hair was a little bit longer than. I hope you get the chance to go out to Yellowstone some day in winter or summer.

Lake City without the tourists

Lake City, Colorado is a favorite of mine and I now know I prefer it without the tourists. The town was practically empty and many of the businesses were closed down already. Winter comes early and it has already snowed in the Rockies.
This is a street in Lake City one block off the main street through town. That is a campground on the left but practically everyone is gone.

This road is the Alpine Loop that goes up over two very high passes and in the summer is full of jeeps and 4-wheelers. This day I was alone except for two other vehicles and I was 10 miles back in. Quiet!

Even the stream has quieted down since the tourists left. The snow-melt has come to an end getting ready for the new snow.

This was my cabin and I have stayed there before. Nice little place with all the features of home. Laundry, showers, grill to cook on, and a fire pit out front.

Just a week before all of the spaces were filled. As you can see everyone has left but Ed and his wife who I met while I was there. They are building a house in town and stay till the RV park closes which was in two day.

The shower house and laundry and public deck with another grill for those fish we caught.

I did find a boy down at the creek fishing. He said he had not caught anything. Maybe the fish left town, too.

Even Lake San Cristobal was quiet when I went by. It is a mile south of town and a beautiful place to fish, kayak, swim and just relax.

It was a great vacation and as usual I met some real nice people everywhere I went. I wonder where I will go next?
