Lake City, Colorado is a favorite of mine and I now know I prefer it without the tourists. The town was practically empty and many of the businesses were closed down already. Winter comes early and it has already snowed in the Rockies.
This is a street in Lake City one block off the main street through town. That is a campground on the left but practically everyone is gone.
This road is the Alpine Loop that goes up over two very high passes and in the summer is full of jeeps and 4-wheelers. This day I was alone except for two other vehicles and I was 10 miles back in. Quiet!
Even the stream has quieted down since the tourists left. The snow-melt has come to an end getting ready for the new snow.
This was my cabin and I have stayed there before. Nice little place with all the features of home. Laundry, showers, grill to cook on, and a fire pit out front.
Just a week before all of the spaces were filled. As you can see everyone has left but Ed and his wife who I met while I was there. They are building a house in town and stay till the RV park closes which was in two day.
The shower house and laundry and public deck with another grill for those fish we caught.
I did find a boy down at the creek fishing. He said he had not caught anything. Maybe the fish left town, too.
Even Lake San Cristobal was quiet when I went by. It is a mile south of town and a beautiful place to fish, kayak, swim and just relax.
It was a great vacation and as usual I met some real nice people everywhere I went. I wonder where I will go next?
